In mid-winter at least, impression of pushing the door onto a Holbein painting; dark rich Tudor mood hostelry a stones throw from Germany's longest river. A light pleasant budget midday menu, which frankly might be quotidian on the opposite riverbank, with a simplistic beef-broth starter, and very un-Tudor as to quantity. In this wealthy discreet Rhineland where Porsche and wild-boar ply immutable Riesling slopes, the serious denizen eaters, one bearing a remarkable likeness to rude Henery himself, dove into the latter hearty karte pages, which must be testimony to merit over outlay.

A nouvelle Tudor cuisine trying a little too hard to keep one foot either side of the Rhine. Slight rift in culinary identity, but a recommendable experience nonetheless.

Comming back now and then it is always a big surprise. Mr. Laufer Sen. regarding the collection of aged wines, Mr. Laufer Jun. preparing trad. dishes as well as fusion and x-over courses easpecially in the set menue. More than reasonable priced wines, partially from the first half of the last century, pair the outstanding dishes. The 4 courses menue (chose from 3 to 5) priced at 46€ accompaigning excellent - not the usual cheep wine - add 30€ - more for 4 or 5 courses. Diving into the menue takes you to fusions you would not believe to be possible, especially in this area. Like freshest salmon as a spring roll teamed with sesamee and light soy to it's perfection. These are the reasons I am comming back. Highly recommended
