The owners of The Six Bells in Witham on the Hill did a great job renovating this double-fronted, red-brick pub in a small village outside of Peterborough. Inside, there’s a smart look and buzzy atmosphere to the bar and three dining rooms, while the large outdoor terrace is enhanced by the presence of a pizza oven ideal for a light summer lunch. The main menus include obligatory pub classics and rotisserie chicken, alongside simple, cleanly executed dishes such as plaice with new potatoes, tenderstem and caper butter sauce. Stay overnight in one of the comfortable bedrooms.
