Positioned both in the centre of Okinoerabu island and on the dividing line between the East China Sea and the Pacific, Koshiyama Lookout offers a fabulous panoramic view over the whole of this almost flat territory. The bright green of the lush vegetation, including numerous sugar cane crops, stands out against the blue-tinted sea on the horizon. A monument commemorates the retrocession of the Amami Islands to Japan in 1953, after their grievous post-war occupation by the Americans.
